MEDICAL, EDUCATIONAL MISSIONS & OUTREACH (M.E.M.O.)
UC Irvine
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2007, M.E.M.O. (Medical, Educational Missions and Outreach) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, student-run humanitarian organization at UCI, UCSD, and USC that aims to serve the underprivileged communities both locally in Southern California and abroad in Vietnam. Within SoCal, our students volunteer at local health fairs, food banks, and after-school programs. Additionally, M.E.M.O. has an annual mission trip, sending volunteers and healthcare professionals in order to offer medical relief, educational scholarships, life-saving heart surgeries, and much more to the underserved populations in Vietnam.
SERVICE
Throughout the school year, we serve the local community through various service events such as free health fairs, after-school programs, senior centers, and food banks.
WORKSHOPS
During our general meetings, we host workshops to give students hands-on experience. Some workshops that we have hosted include CPR, blood glucose and cholesterol, and blood pressure. We also have guest speakers from various fields, such as doctors, PAs, dentists, MCAT/GRE advisors, and different volunteer opportunities.
FUNDRAISING
In order to fund our five mission trip programs, we hold various fundraisers throughout the school year. These include Ring Road on-campus fundraisers, off-campus fundraisers at nearby restaurants, ice skating, and TV tapings.
SOCIALS
To de-stress from school, we hold various socials throughout the year to get to know our MEMObers. Socials include eating together after meetings, getting a Big or Little for mentorship, and our interchapter socials (ICS) where we meet MEMObers from our UCSD, USC, and UCLA chapters!
DID YOU KNOW?
At our 14th Annual Open Our Hearts Gala, we were able to surpass our goals and sponsor the most heart surgeries we have ever sponsored in M.E.M.O.'s history. We were able to sponsor 30 heart surgeries for kids with congenital heart disease in Vietnam!
