The Project S.T.A.R. (Students Turned Active Readers) Program at the Westminister Civic Center aims to promote reading comprehension to at-risk first and second grade students to initiate and encourage a passion for literacy. M.E.M.O. volunteers read alongside the students in small groups, asking discussion questions throughout the reading to ensure students are following along. After finishing the reading, volunteers and students work together on creative activity worksheets to share with their peers to practice public speaking.
